2012 will get here just fine. The reason people think the world will end is because the Mayan calendar ends that year. This is because 2012 was the last year they calculated before their civilization collapsed.
I am confident 2012 will happen. Just like 2011 and 2010 will happen.
It’s going to happen.
The year after 2011.
THE YEAR 2012 is going to happen.
The vague apocalyptic bull-crap predictions for 2012 are not going to happen. This is predicted not by scientists, but by stupid, superstitious people who didn’t learn anything from the previous 100000 times when people thought that the world would end and it didn’t.
You have to go a little bit deeper into this. Nothing will happen that’s for sure, most of the people thinks the world would end because that’s when Mayan calendar ends… It doesn’t mean anything really, when you REALLY think about it, calendars are made by the human mind, you should ask yourself what is time actually? It’s not true so don’t worry about it.
the doomsday nonesense?
nope. all bull-pokey.
the year?
it should come around. by my calculations, it should arrive in a little less than four years.
2012 (the year) is going to happen. 2012 (the Apocalypse) is not.
Scientists don’t expect anything out of the ordinary to happen in the year 2012, or specifically on the date December 21, except for the solstice, which happens every year.
None of the “predicted” happenings for 2012 hold up under close scrutiny. “Planet X” and “Nibiru” simply don’t exist. The Mayan calendar ends a cycle, but there were no predictions of the end of the world. The Sun doesn’t line up with the galactic centre; it’s 6 degrees off. No asteroids or comets are actually predicted to hit Earth.
All of this stuff was put together by crackpots in order to promote their books and TV shows, and shamelessly promoted by the History Channel. Don’t take any of it seriously!
Arctic sea ice has decreased by 38% each decade since 1979.
Carbon dioxide increased by 383 parts per million.
Sea level has increased by 50mm since 1992.
The ozone hole is 8.5 million square miles large.
Sounds like the world is coming to an end, doesn’t it?
HOWEVER!!!
The climate change is completely natural! The alleged “global warming” is a lie. In reality, the figures are 800 years out of sync. It’s CLIMATE CHANGE that’s causing the increase CO2 levels. Not the other way around.
In any case, it would take FAR MORE than 3 years before conditions become too extreme for humans to survive.
Hehe! Don’t worry, no scientists are predicting any ‘doom’ for 2012.
The only people who are doing so are the usual “End of the World is Nigh” brigade who have swapped their sandwich-boards for the internet. Becoming high-tech doesn’t make them any less wrong.
omg how many times has this question been asked???

I second Geoff G’s answer.
Here’s some stuff to show your friend. Hopefully this will give you the information you need to counter this hoax.

My own opinion, where I also have more links: http://astrogeek.wordpress.com/hoax/
There’s nothing to be afraid of because nothing is going to happen. This 2012 hoax is put forward by the same people who predicted the end of the world in 2003. How many people died as a result of THAT apocalypse?
Trust your own judgement. You know that it’s not going to happen. Just laugh at your friends for being ridiculous, and encourage them to get their information from science magazines, rather than youtube or the History Channel.
no. utter nonsense. a cruel and cynical hoax. you should know better.
No, they also predicted “Nibiru” to hit the earth on May 2003, but nothing happened.
Check out this Nasa’s official scientist on their official homepage anwering that 2012 is just a hoax!:
http://astrobiology.nasa.gov/ask-an-astrobiologist/question/?id=2744
P.S : Nasa’s official HOME PAGE! If she doesn’t believe in that then i guess she’s just mentally retarded.
And after all, the “prediction” says that we WILL see “Nibiru” in 2009 Spring. So we’ll see?
Well, 2012 is going to happen, but doomsday isn’t. None of the claims by the doomsday prophets are based on science, just wild speculation. The people writing the books (notably Zecharia Sitchen) aren’t scientists and are just trying to make money.
The Mayans didn’t predict doomsday. It is just the end of the current cycle of their Long Count calendar.
Nostradamus didn’t predict it. He never mentioned 2012 and all the Nostradamus “quotes” being thrown around aren’t what he actually wrote. They are what some people have decided that he meant. Even Nostradamus scholars don’t agree on how the various centuries and quatrains should be interpreted.
The Bible never mentions 2012 or references it in any way. It talks about the end times, but there is no mention of when.
Nibiru/Planet X doesn’t exist.
The Sun isn’t going to be aligned with the center of the galaxy.
There is no actual planetary alignment. Sometimes the planets appear to be aligned in our view of the sky. This is a long way from actual alignment in space.
Geomagnetic reversal – These reversals of the magnetic field have occurred in the past, as shown by magnetic striping, but we can’t predict when they will occur again. However, the time between reversals is not constant, varying from less than 100,000 years, to tens of millions of years.
Although fast by geological standards, reversals are by no means quick on the human time scale. They take roughly 5,000 years, with estimates ranging from 1,000 years to 8,000 years.
Solar flares – These do increase and decrease in an eleven year cycle. They haven’t caused any serious problems in the past. The direct effects of solar flares are mainly related to communications and radio transmissions. We had a major series of solar flares in 2005.
2012 will probably come and go like any other year.
One of several Mayan calendars is the Long Count calendar, which is reset to day 0 every 1,872,000 days or 7057.5 years. The next reset date, by some calculations, is December 21, 2012. This is not a prediction of the end of the world.
These predictions are scare tactics, conspiracy theories, and chances to make money from books and movies.
Ever since the Y2K and 6/6/6 (June 6, 2006) End of the World scenarios did not pan out, the scare mongers, conspiracy theorists, book sellers, and television executives have been touting the 2012 End of the World scenario. When 2012 does not happen either, I am sure they will think of something else.
“But of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come.” (Mark 13:32-33)
Jesus told us in no uncertain terms that we were not to know when the end of the world would come but that we were always to be ready.
The early Christian Church thought that Jesus was going to return at any moment. Only after a couple of centuries did the Church realize that it may be 2,000 or 4,000 or 8,000 years before Jesus returns.
The Catholic Church wisely follows Jesus’ advice and teaches that each of us should live as if we will meet our maker in the next ten minutes and that we need to work to make the world a better place for our 100 X great-grandchildren.
Do not worry about the end of the world. Trust God to make sure everything happens to plan. Just be ready to meet God at any time.
